Five Questions with Amélie Montale

International Women’s Day

March 8th is an annual celebration of women – their achievements, their broken boundaries, their inspirations. This International Women’s Day, Creative Director Amélie Montale offers insight into her experience as a female figure in the fragrance world, and how Mancera Parfums has empowered her to live freely and boldly.

What advice would you give to women interested in a career in the fragrance industry?

Believe in yourself 1000%. Follow your instincts, your inspirations, and never doubt your vision. When you create with passion and love, it shines through. This industry takes time, audacity, and a strong identity. My mantra?

“All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.”

And this isn’t just about women… it’s human nature. Any bold idea, any true innovation, faces resistance before being recognized. The key is to keep going and trust your path.

What challenges do you face in a predominantly male industry, and how do you navigate them?

Every day is a challenge… and I embrace it. I’m a Taurus with a Scorpio rising, so you can imagine!

But really, determination is everything. I don’t push my ideas for myself; I show how they benefit the brand and our community. When you prove the “how” and the “why,” doors open. (Even the ones that seemed locked.)

Who are some inspiring women in your life, personally and professionally?

My mother. For her patience, impeccable taste, and for teaching me never to doubt myself. In today’s world, with social media everywhere, it’s easy to lose yourself trying to fit in. She always reminded me to have my own opinions and stay true to who I am.

I also admire those fearless women who fight for what they believe in, no matter the cost like Dian Fossey, who dedicated her life to protecting gorillas in the wild. Passion, resilience, and a refusal to back down (that’s the kind of spirit that inspires me.)

How does fragrance empower women to be their most confident selves?

A fragrance is more than a scent… it’s a statement, an invisible armor. The right perfume doesn’t follow trends; it follows the person who wears it and makes them unforgettable.

What I love about Mancera is how our fragrances evolve on the skin. Even if two people wear the same scent, it develops differently, making it completely unique. Our perfumes adapt, transform, and tell a different story on everyone. That’s what makes them so special.

What’s your scent of the day?

Today, (and not only today) I went for a bold layering: Red Tobacco softened with Tonka Cola. A balance of intensity and sweetness… kind of like me!
